Prior to 1993, the standard specification for laboratory plumbing in Malaysian schools is glazed earthen pipes with cement joints. Although glazed earthen pipes are inert to chemicals, their cement joints are susceptible to chemical corrosion. Thus most laboratories are confined to the ground floor. Perniagaan Ariff is instrumental in introducing the closed polypropylene (PP) laboratory plumbing using mechanical joints to Malaysia.
